Whangarei Boys High School

Principal’s Personal Statement

A warm welcome to Whangarei Boys’ High School. We are immensely proud of the rich history and traditions of our school where young men have been educated for the past 137 years.

We have our sights firmly focused on improving outcomes for all students so that all students move on from us with qualifications and choices for their future. Whangarei Boys’ High School has strength in sports and culture and we place strong value on encouraging boys to reach their full potential in the classroom, on the sports field and on the stage.

In 2017 our school roll is over 1200, with students coming from all over the Far North to attend Carruth House, our boarding hostel, as well as serving the wider Whangarei area. Our school demographic is almost 50% Maori making us a very rich and diverse community. We see this as one of our strengths and we are grateful for the high levels of engagement of our parent community in supporting all students to succeed. We value input from our students and whanau as we see the development of “fine young men” as a partnership where all participants make valuable contributions.

We look forward to 2017 being another successful year at WBHS.
