Boys who attend WBHS are expected to wear their uniform correctly and with pride at all times - whilst at school, to and from school and when representing the school.

UNIFORM FOR STUDENTS IN YEARS 9 - 12 is:
Hat: The only hats permitted will be the school cap. Peaks must be worn forward. Hats off indoors.
Shirt: Regulation blue "polo" shirt with school monogram. Shirts may be out with short pants but must be tucked in when wearing a jersey/sweatshirt.
Trousers: Grey school shorts - plain with zip fly and side tabs (NOT elasticised waist) - waistband must be above hips, hem must be above knee. Oversized shorts/trousers are unacceptable.
Year 12 & 13 only: Long, light grey dress trousers with black/grey belt. (NOT denim, corduroy or cargoes). No cuffs, waistband must be above hips, hem above shoes. (Shirts must be tucked in if long trousers are worn.)
Socks: With shorts, grey socks with school colours must be worn to just below the knee. If students do not wish to wear socks pulled up, they have an alternative in sandals (see below).
Jersey: Regulation navy blue jersey as manufactured for the school (school colours around neck and school monogram on left side of chest).
Sweatshirt: Regulation black as manufactured for the school with monogram on left side of chest.
Jacket: Regulation black and gold as manufactured for the school. This is the only jacket that may be worn within the school.
P.E: Boys should wear plain black football-type shorts with whanau-coloured T-shirt or singlet.
Footwear: Plain blackleatherlaceupshoesthatcanbepolished OR sandals, black or brown (not jandals) to be worn with strap over the heel. Sandals may be worn only with shorts. The term “plain” means NO coloured labels, soles or, in the case of sandals, no colour patterns on the straps. No ‘booties’ - shoes only
Jewellery: The only jewellery permitted is a watch or Medic-alert bracelet. No make-up, facial tattoos or other visible tattoo etc permitted. No nail polish. No sunglasses.
Hair: Students hair must be clean and tidy at all times with no extremes of fashion acceptable, e.g. Mohawks, dreadlocks, corn rows, rats tails, unnatural coloured hair, etc. Long hair must be tied back. A clean, shaven face is required at all times.
Garments worn as undergarments: Only plain white singlets or T-shirts may be worn. They must not hang down below the school shirt either at waist or sleeves.
Dress uniform: Referred to as Number Ones.
Consists of: Plain white long-sleeve shirt, light grey long trousers (not denim or corduroy), plain black leather lace-up shoes that can be polished, Whangarei Boys' High School blazer and a Whangarei Boys' High School tie. (Blazers available from Northland School Wear, Kamo, Postie+ and Bethells.) Number Ones cannot be worn with the school sweatshirt or jacket.
YEAR 13 DRESS CODE
Prefects must wear dress uniform. Non-Prefects can wear mufti only after an approved application. Failure to adhere to mufti rules will result in the privilege being revoked.
Standard of clothing: Items of clothing designed as beach wear or work clothes are unacceptable. Denim clothing is not acceptable. All clothing must be clean and in good condition and repair.
Logos, trademarks, pictures etc:
For all items of clothing
- no logos etc shall exceed 100mm x 100mm in dimension.
- logos etc must not advertise alcohol, tobacco or other substances forbidden at school.
- logos etc must be such that they could not offend members of the school or the public.
Shirts: Shirts must be dress shirts or “polo” shirts (e.g. tab and collar. Buttoned-front shirts must be worn buttoned up (e.g. at least two thirds). Only shirts with a finished hem may be worn outside long trousers.
Garments worn as undergarments: These will comply with the logos and standards criteria. They must not hang below a shirt at the waist or sleeves.
Shorts/longs: Shorts/longs will have a zip or button fly or tailored false fly (no beach or work wear). Knit or elasticated cuffs are not acceptable (no tracksuits). Jeans are not permitted.
Footwear: (to be worn at all times). Shoes will be clean and worn laced up. Shoes are to be worn with socks. Scuffs and Kung Fu-type footwear are not acceptable. No boots (other than basketball boots). Sandals will have heel straps (worn with the heel strap done up). Sandals may be worn with or without socks, but only with shorts. No jandals. Work socks and rugby socks are not to be worn.
Jerseys, jackets, sweatshirts and other over garments: These must be worn over the top of a regulation shirt. They must comply with the logos and standards criteria. Hooded tops are not permitted.
Hats: Only sun hats are to be worn. They must be worn as sun hats, peak forward and must not be worn inside.
