Whangarei Boys' High takes pride in it's ability to provide a host of activities for it's pupils. In fact all boys are actively encouraged to participate. There is top class tuition available in all activities.
The school has first class recreational facilities. There are three rugby fields and a soccer field, in a magnificent park like setting. For summer sports, there is a full sized swimming pool, tennis courts and cricket pitches and nets. Also available is a well equipped gymnasium for volleyball and basketball, a weight training room and table tennis facilities.
There is a regular Saturday competition and a variety of inter school exchanges in a range of sports. Besides major sports such as rugby, cricket and soccer, boys have the opportunity to partake in many other activities, e.g. league, surfing, swimming, rowing, cycling, cross country running, badminton, yachting, triathlon, athletics, trap shooting, squash, golf, volleyball, fencing, etc. There is also a major emphasis on Outdoor Education centred round a campus programme.
Whangarei Boys' High School also takes great pride in its cultural programme. Each year the school hosts musical evenings featuring the school vocal group, the School Choir, the Fideliter Jazz Band as well as public speaking to name a few. There is also an annual musical production performed with Girls' High School. The school boasts many talented musicians and itinerant music teachers offer expert tuition in a variety of different instruments.
In addition to the regular English classes Whangarei Boys' High School also offers English courses specifically designed to cater for students whose first language is not English. Students are helped to develop skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Preparation classes can also be taken for the IELTS examination. (International Language Testing System).
