Co-Curricular Overview
Whangarei Boys' High School takes pride in its ability to provide a host of activities for its young men, with all boys being actively encouraged to participate. There is top class professional tuition available in allactivities.
 
Sport
The school has first-class recreational facilities. There are three rugby fields and a soccer field, in a magnificent park-like setting. For summer sports, there is a full-sized swimming pool, tennis courts and cricket pitch with 4 practice nets. Also available are 2 well-equipped gymnasia for volleyball, basketball, badminton and table tennis, and a weight-training room.

Music Tuition
The school has many different musical instruments for hire and itinerant music teachers offer expert tuition in these. Instrumental tuition is available for all year
levels. Instruments taught include drums, guitar, brass, woodwind and keyboard. The school jazz band operates in conjunction with Whangarei Girls' High School and
features at public functions in and around Whangarei. Other ensembles include percussion groups, rock bands and guitar ensembles. The Smokefree Rockquest is an annual event with as many as five student-led bandsentering the competition,
 
 
Vocal Group
The all boys Vocal Group also known as the Testosterones, have been for the past 3 years rehearsing
for various performances, including the Big Sing which is an annual northern singing event for boys and girls
attending secondary schools, last year the boys did very well impressing the audiences with their male harmony’s.
We are again entering the Big Sing and we hope to do as well as we did last year. We have now got a big group of
boys in the vocal group. More updates on the vocal group will come as the year progresses.

Drama
Drama performances are generally for the purposes of assessment. We also have an entry in the annual Stage Challenge ompetition in which all students are welcome to participate.                                         
                                   
Kapa Haka
Kapahaka at WBHS is strong, with its own Maori Performing Arts class and a combined competitive group. The MPA class includes an intensive Mau Rakau programme which the boys thoroughly enjoy. The class performs at events and venues throughout the year. WBHS combines with WGHS to perform at both the Taitokerau Festival and The Taitokerau Regional
Competition. All students are invited to participate and join in on any of the activities involving Kapahaka at WBHS.
