TOURNAMENT WEEK:

HOCKEY:         The 1st XI attended Rankin Cup Tournament in Rotorua last week as part of Secondary Schools Tournament Week. After a close game with Otago Boys first up, the team struggled to find the tempo they had played at home in the club competition. They played Hamilton Boys and St Kentigan College in the pool play, Auckland Grammer in the cross over pool play, and then St Andrews (Christchurch) and finally Hutt Valley. Final placing 15th=.

FOOTBALL:      The 1st XI attended the Malcolm Cowie Tournament in Whangarei.   This was played at Tikipunga Park. They played Takapuna, One Tree Hill, Rutherford and Pukekohe in their pool. The boys played well, with one Y9 and five Y10 in the team, but did not take advantage of all the scoring opportunities which they created and should have won first two games easily. But lost and drew. Only lost 2 goals to nil to the eventual winners, Takapuna, who we could have beaten. They won the final 9 goals to 1 and beat everyone else by 6 goals.

BASKETBALL: The WBHS 1st Basketball team played in the tournament in Waitakere.  The boys competed against 19 other schools from the Auckland region playing Onehunga, Massey, Rosmini and Westlake B. Playing against some of the top teams in the country, we needed a top six finish to qualify for nationals. It all came down to a game against Kelston Boys who were ranked in the top 10 in the country. Our boys raised their game to a whole new level beating Kelston 88 to 73. In our final game we beat Dilworth to finish in 5th place which entitles them to compete in the AA Nationals in Auckland from 27 September to 1 October.

U15 RUGBY:     An U15 rugby squad attended the Invitation Tournament in Hastings. The team competed well and ended up 6th overall. They missed 3rd place by 4 points.

Jake Heenan (Capt of 1st XV) was named in the NZ Sec Schools’ Rugby side – a fantastic effort.
