Monday 21st May report by Mr D Brits

There were six schools present at the NZSS Golf Qualifier & Non Handicap ‘Have a Go’ Competition at Denby Golf Course, Whangarei. We came second, just behind Rodney College who walked away with the trophy. I have just started with the golf academy this year and the students played very well. Craig Hockings had the best overall score with a 75 Cross for the day. This is very good as the par for the course is 69. He was only three over. This was the highlight of the day.

The 2018 Secondary School Surfing Champions have been named:

U14 Boys             Tai Erceg-Gray (WBHS) and Te Kauwhata Kauwhata (Home School)

U16 Boys             Tom Robinson (WBHS)

U18 Boys             Max Brunker (WBHS) and Tom Norton (Bream Bay College)

Only two events out of three were held.  A training squad, to prepare for the October NSSSA Nationals in Gisborne will be announced soon and more WBHS surfers are likely to be selected for that.

28 New Zealand athletes have been selected for the 2018 Oceania Polynesian Regional Championships on 4th & 5th October in Apia, Samoa. The Championships will be contested in Senior and U18 grades. Congratulations to Nik Kini who is part of the 28 team. All the best in Samoa Nik.
